Bardo Museum
This museum has an impressive collection of mosaics from sites across Tunisia. Along with the mosaics you will find artifacts from the different empires in Tunisian history.
Bizerte
Bizerte is the northernmost governance in Tunisia. It is also home to the northernmost point of Africa (Cap Angela). Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea on the Old Port dating back to the Ottoman Empire.
Bulla Regia
Bulla Regia is one of the most unique sites in Tunisia, the ancient Romans built basements where they lived during the hot summers. Also, St. Augustine preached a sermon in Bulla Regia on his way from Hippo to Carthage.
Carthage
Today Carthage is a suburb of Tunis, the capital of Tunisia. Historically, Carthage was the center of an empire and the center of trade. Visitors can see ruins spanning multiple eras: Carthaginian, Roman, and Byzantine Empires. You can tour the site which contains aqueducts, baths, amphitheater, and a basilica.
Chenini
Chenini is a small indigenous (Amazigh) village in the desert of Tunisia. This village offers an opportunity to experience a different culture and history apart from Tunisian culture.
Djerba
Djerba is truly special, it is a mix of desert and beautiful Mediterranean beaches. The island is home to El Ghriba Synagogue. Also, walk through the art district (Djerbahood) with murals on the walls of the homes and businesses. .
Dougga
Dougga is a massive ancient city located 2 hours outside of Tunis. Visitors will be able to walk through ancient homes, an amphitheater, forums, and Roman temples. The drive to Dougga is beautiful as well!
El Jem
The Amphitheater of El Jem is one of the best preserved Roman sites in the world. It is similar to the Coliseum in Rome. At capacity it could hold nearly 35,000 spectators. Guests can now walk all throughout this impressive site.
Kairouan
The Great Mosque of Uqba is in the city of Kairouan. The city was founded in the 7th century and the mosque was the center for Sunni Islamic scholarship. Kairouan is an important site for Muslim pilgrims. Also, Indiana Jones fans may recognize some of the streets!
Makthar
In the foothills of the Atlas Mountains lies a unique historical site. Most of the site dates back to the Roman Empire, but there are some buildings that date before the Romans and provide interesting insight into life before the Roman Empire. While at Makthar, be on the lookout for the forum, large baths, and many other sites.
Medina/Zitouna Mosque
The Medina is home to some of Tunisia’s finest artisans; guests will find vendors selling rugs, olive wood, traditional clothing, jewelry, and metalwork. Also, in Medina is Zitouna Mosque, one of the oldest and most significant mosques in North Africa.
Oudhna
An hour south of the capital (Tunis) is the present day village of Oudhna. Some highlights of the site are an amphitheater, forum, Roman baths, and ancient homes.
Sahara Desert
The fingertips of the Sahara reach into Tunisia. Take advantage of the opportunity to explore the desert. Your group can go on a camel trek, glamping under the stars, or ride four-wheelers or SUVs through the dunes.
Sbeitla
Sbeitla is a massive site in North Central Tunisia. This site was discovered and excavated in the early 20th century. Sbeitla is the best-preserved site in Tunisia and potentially one the best in the Roman world. If given the time, Sbeitla should be on the list of sites to see.
Sidi Bou Said
Known for its blue doors and white walls, Sidi Bou Said is an iconic destination in Tunis. Take a short walk to see an amazing view overlooking the Port of Tunis. Take advantage of the opportunity to see the different artisan vendors along the street.
Sousse
Sousse is the 3rd largest city in Tunisia and is a perfect vacation destination, with its beaches, close location to other sites, and history. The medina in Sousse is one of Tunisia’s eight UNESCO sites.
Star Wars
George Lucus used aspects of Tunisian culture and landscape in creating Tatooine including the name. Parts of Star Wars were filmed in Southern Tunisia, and some of the film sites are still intact and available for you to visit today.
Thuburbo Majus
Thuburbo Majus is outside the modern-day village of El Fajas. Thuburbo Majus is close to Zaghouan, Oudhna, and Tunis, making it a great day trip location. The site is home to a forum, six different temples, and baths.
Touzer
Touzer is a unique city at the edge of the Sahara Desert. Surrounding Touzer is the Chott el Djerid salt flat, a number of oases, Star Wars film sites, canyons which guests can hike or drive through, and a market for rugs and other Tunisian souvenirs.
Zaghouan
Zaghouan was once the source of water for Carthage and the Romans constructed a series of aqueducts from Zaghouan to Carthage. In Zaghouan you can see the ruins of the Roman water temple.
